Google: Verify and Update your Google+ Business Listing in 2 Weeks

Last week, Google began rolling out changes in their system that will affect local search. You have a little over two weeks to update your listings or Google will no longer display your business listing in their system.

Saving Your Business Listing

According to Jade Wang, Google’s Business Community Manager, they began rolling out changes to Google Places for Business and Google Maps last February 6. In line with these changes, Google sent out email notifications to business listing owners to save their listings on or before February 21.

“If you did receive this email, don’t worry. Please log into Places for Business, take a look at your business information, update it if necessary and click ‘Submit,'” explained Wang. “You’ll need to do this for all listings in your account by February 21, 2014, so they can stay on Google Maps. Otherwise, you’ll need to add your business information and undergo PIN verification using Google Places again.”

Easier Google+ Local Page Setup

The other change allows you to view your local listing page prior to PIN verification. This makes it easier for you to review and change your information to ensure it is correct before officially claiming your listing. You can visit this unverified page through a link provided in your dashboard.

“You will be able to use Google+ social features on this unverified page, but please note – you still need to complete PIN verification before the page will start showing up in Google Maps and across other Google properties,” Wang explained.
The following instructions were posted along with Wang’s announcement as well:

  • For Owners of Unverified Google + Pages in the local / business category

Verify using the PIN method to make your listing public across all Google properties, including Maps. You can check the Verification User Guide for more information on doing this right.

  • For Users Creating a New Local Google+ Page / Businesses with Existing Maps Presence

You’ll need to verify your business listing through the PIN verification method. You’ll also need to go through Google’s admin request flow before you can start tweaking the page.
