Hootsuite Demonstrates How Content Marketing is Done in the Game of Social

The people behind Hootsuite, a social media management platform, have already shown us how much they love HBO’s Game of Thrones series in an infographic. Now they’ve released an awesome video just in time for the premiere of the series’ fourth season.

The video depicts the major social networks as great kingdoms in a parody of the Game of Thrones opening sequence.

In a blog post that announced the video, Hootsuite’s Evan LePage writes: “That [Social Media Winter is Coming infographic] was a hit with the social media community, so we knew we had to take things up a notch for this season’s premiere. Enter the Game of Social Thrones video.”

I personally think the video’s attention to detail is absolutely brilliant, especially when it came to Google’s kingdom. They didn’t focus on Google+ and YouTube alone; they also included Google’s other services, such as Drive, Chrome, and Maps.

The observatory with the giant telescope to signify Google’s search engine was a nice touch, too.

The blog post also mentions “a few hidden Easter eggs,” but I’m not sure if I found them all. Does the Twitter kingdom’s literal “Vine” count as one? While it doesn’t have its own separate area like Google’s other services do, but I’m sure anyone who’s social media-savvy will spot it right away:

Another detail that’s easy to miss is the presence of the ghostly figure of Snapchat beyond the wall:

A few days after releasing the video (which now has been viewed over 200,000 times), Hootsuite also released a fun little personality quiz to determine which character you are in the Game of Social.
Hootsuite is already a renowned name in social media management, but they don’t coast on their popularity and keep creating great content that their users love to share. Couple that with excellent timing, and you’ve got a highly effective content marketing strategy that will get people talking about your content and your brand.
